Absentee-Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma
The official website of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe. The ancestral homelands of the Shawnees are in the northeastern United States. During the 19th century, the tribe was removed by the U.S. Government to what is now the state of Kansas. The group which became known as the Absentee Shawnee Tribe absented itself from the reservation in Kansas in 1845 (thus their name), and traveled southwards to Texas. Eventually they were relocated to Indian Territory ( Oklahoma). The Big Jim Band settled along the Deep Fork River, while the other band settled in its present site near Shawnee, Oklahoma. In 1886, the U.S. Army forced the Big Jim Band to move once again, this time to the site of its present community in Cleveland County.

Ak-Chin Indian Community of the Maricopa
The AK-Chin Indian Community is nestled into the Santa Cruz Valley of Southern Arizona. Located at an elevation of approximately 1,186 feet, the Community lies 58 miles south of Phoenix in the northwestern part of Pinal County. In this extremely arid Sonoran Desert climate, no streams slice through the landscape and no mountains rise steeply from the desert floor. Two washes traverse the reservation from north to south. The AK-Chin, who are comprised of the both Tohono O’odham and Pima people, own and operate a 109 acre industrial park which was constructed in 1971. Suitable for light industry and agricultural-related industries, the industrial park is located at the southeast corner of the reservation, adjacent to the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Aroostook Band of Micmacs
The majority of the 1000 members of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs live within Aroostook County, located in Northern Maine. As far as we know, from time immemorial the Micmacs have occupied the lands south and east of the Gulf of Saint Laurence, the Maritime Provinces and other regions along the Atlantic Seaboard of Northeastern America. The Micmac Nation, today, is composed of seven districts of 29 bands with a population of approximately 30 thousand. On November 26, 1991 after complex legal maneuvering and political lobbying the Aroostook Band of Micmacs finally achieved Federal Recognition with the passage of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs Settlement Act. This act provided the Community with acknowledgment of its tribal status in the United States. The Aroostook Band of Micmacs have succeeded in rejuvenating a part of the Micmac Nation.
