Native American Music
The album "American Holocaust" is dedicated to one of Jessup's most passionately held causes--the plight of the American Indian. Using the term 'Holocaust' in the album title generated some serious backlash to the singer's business aspirations, but it is a term used thoughtfully, respectfully, and accurately. The album highlights the plight of many Native Americans Georgie saw during her lengthy stay on a Lakota Reservation, where she sought spiritual guidance from Chief Frank Fools Crow. The album begins with a recitation in the Lakota's language of the true meaning of love and abruptly moves into the call to arms, "Hoka Hey." The album reflects the Indians' appreciation for nature's bounty and their subjugation as European invaders snuffed out their way of life. The concluding song, "American Holocaust" is a melancholy declaration of the wrong-headedness, which deprives us, even to this day, of a way of life that respects nature, the wisdom of elders, and the Great Spirit.

Robert Mirabal | Official Web Site
Robert Mirabal is one of the leaders of the Native American musical renaissance. Mirabal's style is less commercial than many of his contemporaries, building his melodies on the rituals that have surrounded him all of his life at Taos Pueblo in New Mexico, where he was born and still resides. "My culture doesn't allow me to record anything traditional," Mirabal said. "But my music is informed by the ceremonial music that I've heard all of my life. What I create comes out of my body and soul, in a desire to take care of the spirits of the earth."
