The Hudson's Bay Company Archives
The Hudson's Bay Company Archives represent a rich documentation of three centuries of history as the Company grew and expanded in the vast territories of Rupert's Land, which eventually became part of Canada. Many of the HBCA archival materials are valuable for research on early contacts and trade relations (especially the fur trade) between Indigenous peoples of Canada and the early Europeans. The HBC archives include some of the earliest available census information on Indian band settlements in western and northern Canada, accounts of Company trade dealings with native peoples and an abundance of other information of historical, ethnographic, cultural or scientific interest. Also available is a catalogue of microfilmed records through Inter-Library Loan.
