Mapuche International Link
On the 11th of May 1996 a group of Mapuches and Europeans concerned with the fate of the indigenous peoples and nations of the Americas, and in particular with the Mapuche people of Chile and Argentina , launched the Mapuche International Link (MIL) in Bristol, UK. This new organisation replaced the Comite Exterior Mapuche (CEM) which operated internationally since 1978 from their office located in Bristol . MIL's aims and objectives have been developed and widened with a view to enabling indigenous peoples to contribute fully to their own development, and ultimately, to achieve the right to self determination. The work of our organisation continues in the spirit of the United Nations International Decade of World's Indigenous Peoples (1994/2004) which was declared to focus world-wide attention on human rights violations, the destruction of environments and cultures, and the continuing struggle for recognition of indigenous people's rights to their ancestral territories.

Matses - An Aboriginal Amazonian Tribe
The Matses (sometimes called the Mayoruna) tribe is a native indigenous tribe located on the border area of both Brazil and Peru in the Amazon Rainforest. They speak a language in the Pano linguistic family, and their aboriginal culture is similar in many aspects to the neighboring Matis, Marubo, and Korubo tribes. The Matses-Mayoruna are known for a painful ritual involving the injection of a poison (acate or kambo) from a tree frog.

Matses Tribal Organization
MATSES is a non-profit, NGO (non-governmental organization) for Matses native Indians, an indigenous Amazon Tribe from the Amazon Rainforest. The primary mission of our non-profit organization is to offer assistance to the Matsés indigenous communities so that this native Amazonian tribe can conserve their native culture and indigenous communal reserve in a sustainable and autonomous manner. MATSES is distinctive in that it is the first non-profit organization whose members are from the Matsés tribe itself rather than being controlled by outsiders. In the past, other NGOs composed entirely of non-natives acted as self-appointed representatives for the Matsés tribe with few benefits to the Matsés people. It is our belief that with education and experience, the Matsés nation is capable of determining its own future, independent of the wishes and interests of outsiders. The Movement in the Amazon for Tribal Subsistence and Economic Sustainability (MATSES) is an organization of the Matsés tribe offering assistance to the Matsés people.
