Independent Aboriginal Screen Producers Association
The Independent Aboriginal Screen Producers Association plays a key role in the development of the aboriginal film, television and new media industry through consultation with industry stakeholders; provision of a central and interactive communications vehicle; and lobby and advocacy on behalf of the independent aboriginal production community in Canada. The Independent Aboriginal Screen Producers Association was founded in 2004 to act as a unified voice for the aboriginal film, television and new media industries. Through the initiative of independent producers based in Vancouver, B.C., and with the support of charter members from across the country, IASPA was incorporated as a federal, non-profit corporation in August 2004. In April 2005 IASPA convened an historic national roundtable to discuss the At The Crossroads report, a groundbreaking study of the aboriginal production community commissioned by Canadian Heritage, Telefilm Canada, the Canadian Television Fund, the National Film Board and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. As a result of the meetings IASPA created a Task Force to organize national working groups to discuss Training, Screen Culture and Cultural Policy. IASPA is funded through a grant from Western Economic Diversification.

Igloolik Isuma Productions Inc. was incorporated in January 1990 as Canada's first Inuit independent production company. Isuma's mission is to produce independent community-based media - video, audio, TV and now Internet - to preserve and enhance Inuit culture and language, and to create jobs and needed economic development in Igloolik and Nunavut.
